Bookings for group events from mid January to March 2026 are available now. Book early to get your preferred date. Pre-Christmas bookings are now closed.
An afternoon or evening of golf croquet is a great way to unwind or to celebrate in the beautiful setting of Hagley Park.
- Our charge is $30 per head (we are not GST registered).
- The minimum charge is for 8 people or a minimum payment of $240.
- The maximum booking duration is 4 hours, there will be an extra charge if this is exceeded.
- We do not take bookings finishing later than 8pm.
- Cancellations at short notice, for a change of mind, will incur a fee of $240 (our minimum payment fee). If the group makes a booking for later in the season the payment will become a non refundable deposit towards the new booking.
Payment can be made by cash on the day or by direct credit to our bank account. We can provide an invoice (payable within 7 days) after the event. We do not have EFTPOS.
If the number attending is different to the number confirmed a week prior to the event, we will charge the larger of the number attending and the confirmed number.
For a fee of $20 per 10 people (or part thereof) to a maximum of $50, you can use our kitchen equipment – glasses, crockery, cutlery, kitchen appliances and BBQ.
The croquet clubroom is not large and has a basic kitchen with a microwave, range, fridge and dishwasher. It occupies only part of the building, the other part is used by the North Hagley Community, Sports & Recreation Charitable Trust.
We have a patio area under canvas with tables and chairs. You are welcome to drop in to have a look. Our club days are Saturdays and Wednesdays 10am to 3pm, please call in if you want to discuss your event.

We provide – all equipment: lawns, mallets, hoops, balls etc. We give some very brief instruction on how to swing the mallet and hit the ball and also provide club members who will initially guide you around the lawns. So within 5 minutes of arriving you will be playing.
What to wear? – no high heels and ladies it is advisable to wear longs or shorts, if you are wearing a skirt, it is difficult to swing a mallet.
Wet weather? – Unless there are puddles on the lawns we can play in wet weather. A day or so before your booking if the weather is doubtful we will discuss options with you.
Games – are normally played as doubles but it is easy to accommodate odd numbers. We will play short games (best-of-7 or first to 4 points) which typically last 20–30 minutes. This means that you can change team combinations if you wish.
Social or competitive – Some like to play casually and not worry about the score or a formal draw. Others are fiercely competitive and arrange a formal draw to find a winning team. It is up to you. We have 6 lawns and with teams sharing a lawn 48 people can play at the same time.
Food and refreshments – We do not provide catering. Most groups bring their own food and drinks or arrange for casual or up-market catering.
We do not have an alcohol licence but you may bring your own alcoholic drinks.
Please note that you must take all your rubbish with you. The bins by the clubrooms are not for your use.
We have limited parking but you can drive up to the clubroom to unload. There is a public car park off Riccarton Avenue, the same driveway goes to our clubroom at 10 Riccarton Avenue.
CCC parking fees apply from 8am to 5pm Monday-Sunday –
$2 for one hour, $3.30 for two hours, $4.60 for three hours.
When you book, let us know your programme so that we can schedule including:
- when you will arrive, so we can open up and have club members to help you play
- if different from your arrival time, when you expect to be playing, e.g. if you intend to socialise/eat before playing.
- when you intend to finish. NB – 8pm is as late as we can take bookings to.
- (approximately) how many will be playing so we can have sufficient members to help you play
- if you will be bringing snacks/drinks
- if you need to use our BBQ and/or kitchen equipment.
There are limited options in case of wet weather. Smaller groups can use the club rooms and the patio under canvas.
